光明寺二王門 / Nio gate at Komyoji temple

今回は綾部市奥上林地区に現存する国宝二王門を紹介します。聖徳太子によって創建されたと言われる真言宗醍醐派のお寺です。二王門はその山門として鎌倉時代に建立されました。その当時７２の坊舎があったそうです。I will intorduce NIO gate at KOMYOJI temple, located in OKU KAMBAYASHI area in Ayabe. The temple is said that SOTOKU TAISHI established and is believer of SHINGO DAIGO sect. The gate was made in KAMAKURA era. At that time, there were 72 monk's resident

二王門は北京都で唯一の国宝です。ちなみに全国に国宝建造物はたった２２３件です。そのうちの１つです。NIO gate is National Treasure, which is only one in northern Kyoto. By the way, in Japan there are only 223 National Treasure. NIO gate is one of them.

門には一階建てと二階建てとあり、さらに二階建て門にはさらに二重門と桜門の二種類がある。二重門は古代からの形式で、桜門は鎌倉時代から盛んに立てられるようになった。二王門は二階建ての二重門です。

The gates are separated first story gate and second story gate. and the gates also have 2 kinds NIJYU MON (double gate) and ROH MON. NIJYU MON was ancient style and ROH MON was created in KAMAKURA era and got popular after that. The one of difference is that the gate has roof on first floor or not.
